I’ve been uneasy about NDG’s New Democrat MP, Isabelle Morin, ever since she was elected in the Orange Wave of 2011. First of all, losing a qualified, experienced MP like Liberal Marlene Jennings was a shame, but to replace her with Morin was a disaster.
In four years, Morin and the NDP have done exactly nothing tangible to benefit NDG. Now we find out not only has Morin been wasting our time, she’s also been inappropriately spending our money and will have to pay back $170,000.
(House Speaker Andrew) Scheer, who is also the chair of the Board of Internal Economy, said that since MPs are responsible for the use of House of Commons resources, “they bear sole responsibility for any inappropriate use.”
The BOIE, which governs the financial and administrative policies of the House, concluded last August that the NDP inappropriately spent taxpayer dollars when it used its parliamentary budget to pay staffers for partisan work in the party’s Montreal and Quebec City satellite offices.
NDG deserves better than the NDP gong show.
